The Official Man Utd Thread - Part 3.

Your WB`s should have no issue with reverting to a more conventional FB role

That's a big leap. Especially when Utd's full-backs are looking ill-suited to convert to wing-back roles.

Much of the qualities that you'd look for in a wing-back would be of less value in a conventional full-back role...and additional weaknesses might emerge that weren't as apparent in the wing-back role.

the CB`s should have no issue with reverting to a flat back 4, with one of them obviously losing out. In the middle, there are no drastic changes, same with a striker so where`s the problem? You might have a redundant 10, a redundant CB and the necessity for at least one or possibly two wide forwards. This hardly qualifies as a major fix.

So just the 2 first XI players to be moved on, two starters in different positions brought in plus the hope that the two wing-backs would be as effective in traditional full-back roles.

Add to that the likelihood - given a manager has been sacked - that one or more players elsewhere in the side are not cutting the mustard and need to be moved on too.

Feels like a sizeable fix to me.

if the players were crying then that is a sad state of affairs tbh
Money has replaced pride though Herb, if players need reminding of what they're there for then maybe they'll be more focused next time.
You or I would play for nothing and give our all given just one chance to be on a stage like that.
Let the bums know how privileged they are to be there.

Lets entertain this hypothetical nonsense for a minute.

Your statement re wing backs/full backs is purely speculative and really only made to suit your narrative. IMO its complete nonsense to suggest that capable players in either role would be adverse to adapting either way.

Re moving players on, its a squad game, the players dont necessarily have to be moved on, merely rotated. They might be in the market for at least one wide forward.

As I alluded to earlier, if Amorim doesnt last the pace it's not very likely that the system will beat him and it is highly unlikely that the Amorim system hinders his successor either.

imho assuming that specialist wing-backs would be just as effective at full-back is a bigger leap of faith than thinking that they'd be just as good in the position.

So the next guy after Amorim is going to have to fund a re-fit of the squad without any money coming in from sales...interesting

...no, just most of the opposition teams he faces :ROFLMAO:

and it is highly unlikely that the Amorim system hinders his successor either.

Let's see how it plays out. If Amorim fails and the replacement isn't 3-5-2 fan I dare say that'll be referenced as a factor in why it'll be tricky to get Utd challenging again. And so it repeats...

You are talking utter rubbish re FB/WB... How many "specialist" wing backs can you honestly name? An athletic full back with strong attacking traits would be more than capable of playing as a wing back in the Amorim system. Evra would have flourished in that system as an example, most likely so would Trent. Take those two examples in isolation and try and explain why either player could not play in both roles (Trent would arguably be better as a WB IMO).

If players have to be sold after Amorim leaves, as I said it will be more likely that they are not good enough rather than being incapable of playing in more than one position ffs.

As my initial post said - complete waffle.

Personally I think if Utd actually get an offer of £60m for Garnacho, they should take it.

Forget about systems for a minute, there are serious question marks about Garnacho in general. His decision making is generally very poor and he has shown to have a questionable attitude at times. Naturally there is a chance that he improves massively in both these areas and develops into a top player elsewhere, but equally it is just as likely he wont.

His sale could fund Gyokeres coming in (Summer window) and a top class forward is needed more right now.
Wot? M8, are you being serious?
It's only last year that he scored an overhead kick and the SMCs were declaring him to be the new Rivaldo.
FFS!
