His life after football was pretty shit by the sounds of it. Ended up selling his medals in ‘93. Always thought this was very depressing in light of what some of the primadonnas in todays game are earning.

Think Nobby Stiles had to auction his medals as well. I remember being introduced to some fella (can’t think of his name, Bobby something afair) in the south infirmary who was Chelsea’s record goal scorer at the time and wasn’t exactly a millionaire either.
Yeah, Giles was being interviewed by Dunphy about dementia in football a couple of months ago and was adamant United did little or nothing (or the PFA) to help ex players including Nobby, who is his brother in law IIRC.

Damn shame with the money in the game nowadays that that’s the case.

Yes, must be even more alarming to process for an elite sportsman.

Kennedy had begun to notice changes in his physical state as the early stages of Parkinson’s started to take hold. He had already felt tired after matches for Liverpool but shrugged it off. Now there were occasions when he struggled to even do the buttons up on his shirt after a match at Swansea.
