The Official Athletics Thread

Do you mean the two late arrivals C.?
Yeah, twas mad. Read a bit about it. The lad who started last lost 11 seconds and ran a 26.52 or something. Took a quick leak while they were waiting for a fella to get his bib!! Not just the 11 seconds of course cos his heart rate would have been well higher than ideal when he got to the start!

Strengths and Weaknesses of the format really on show overnight.

I'm going to ignore Salwa Naser because she stinks

But the race for 2nd and 3rd was nothing short of sensational

As was this. What a fuckin talent.

But the sight of Dina Asher Smith out the back door of a 400m or Natoya Goule Toppen falling off in the 1500m or two mediocre enough 200 fields for the short and long sprints on the same day seems overly beurocratic and a bit shit.

Still and all the front of the races has been good. They opened it up to free access for the stand today so crowds were better bit still though, maybe 5 or 6k In a 50k stadium.

The broadcast was boring enough too..No different to a DL really. not enough innovation in analytics or graphics. But it's the lack of crowds and gaps between action that'll kill it.

Aside from my well documented (and let's face it, often solo) support on here for Sha'carri, I've always liked Gabby T - she is an all out racer. What a run in from her in that 400m. Outside of the juicer, they all ran what were very much early season times.

The 1500 was deadly - but Hocker wasn't going to win a dust-up after such a slow opening few laps. The 800 will be good craic tonight.

Agree with Guapo about the broadcast - Jesus, even the IAAF World Feed that TV3 use for big events is better than this. For an event that's going to depend on TV to make any money, it was a big miss.

Yeah, Only catching up now. Day 3 seems like a total flop.

The men's 3000m was shit..Just because the spectacle of a bunch of lads racing for 3rd and leaving 2 fella up the road sucks.

Hey lads, Fergal Curtin 61.12 yesterday in Berlin. A Cork lad, right? Don't know his profile. If he's 'new' to Half distance, that's not a bad time.

Depends on whether you regard Youghal as Cork or not

Peter Lynch broke the Irish 10mile record at the Cherry Blossom invitational too. 45:59
