The next Government

Who will form the next government

  • Total voters

As I posted I don't think MM is running in CSC next time out and if he doesn't - then there are 2 FG seats there I would think with MMcG and one would think O'Laoghaire.

Surely MMcG with his surplus, and the remnants of good feeling for Corks first Taoiseach in 40 years FF could successfully run two candidates in CSC. MMcG could even top the poll and if not he'd definitely be second across the line imho.
Unless they think that SF could successfully run a second candidate in the constituency. Can't see that myself tbh because with DOL a racing certainty to stand for re-election then the SF second candidate would have to be a female and apart from Fiona Kerins I can't think of any obvious female candidate with enough political profile to trouble the others Unless they parachute one in. Could be an interesting convention.
FF would be in a similar situation if MM steps down. Mary Rose Desmond is a southside councillor, think it's too late for Mary Shields who I know on a personal level and is a decent person imho, but would she have the political gravitas for a TD race?
Interesting times ahead for CSC if, as is being suggested, only DOL and MMcG will run in the next GE as outgoing TDs

Nope, just asking you to back up your claim as I did at the time when asked but I guess as usual you have nothing.

Backed what up??? You made scurrilous allegations without any actual proof that I saw.
I've chosen not to repeat stories about Coveney and his private life. If that frustrates and/or annoys your need for salacious gossip that's your problem, not mine

If MM doesn't run, there will be huge dogfight for final seat.
Based on current polling, DOL will easily top the poll but big question is whether he'd have enough to bring in a second.
If Bishopstown brought back into Cork SC, then Jerry may rise again but huge ask in current climate for FG to take two seats.
McGrath as leader of FF will poll well but once again won't be close to enough to bring in a running mate.

I've said it before I think he's their best front-bencher, including MM, but I think the fact that he's from Cork following MM being FF party leader will tell against him. And the fact that they're from the same constituency would be nothing short of remarkable if MMcG gets the FF gig after MM steps down. He could get it in the future though. I think he's a very competent politician.

Not a chance I'd say. Well respected and good operator in Bishopstown area and was excellent Lord Mayor but that was good few years ago. FF would need a very good operator in Mehole's Blackrock/Ballinlough/ T Cross patch. With the exception of half hearted attempt by his daughter to contest council seat about 10 years ago, don't think rest of Martin family have any interest in political career.

There was a story doing the rounds about his private life.
G'wan ya langer.
By the way I did back up my claim about Fierce and it was also backed up by another poster here that witnessed him on another occasion. Feel free to search the forum, I have no reason to lie unlike yourself.

Fair point. Think the gig is Jim O' Callaghan's to lose despite him running a very poor by-election campaign for FF in Dublin last year. Feeling within FF is they need to reconnect to their old vote in Dublin.
