The Michael Collins suite,

will it be like a football match today where the ff people will be made stay in their places until the fg people have left,?
Not at all.
All one big happy family.

A Fianna Fáil leader and Taoiseach speaking at a Collins commemoration with the leader of FG. There are FF cumann members up and down the country thinking WTAF........

Jordan came out earlier and said his film treats Dev unfairly, like it was a mistake he just realised. Problem is it has entered the collective consciousness as historical fact almost.

Collins was an Irish patriot. He fought in 16 for Irish freedom. 32 county Irish freedom. He did it from the starting point that there was no legitimacy to British presence in Ireland and never had been in a year where Ireland, all of it, was in the empire. If being in the empire didn't stop him in 16, the government of Ireland act was equally illegitimate in Ireland's cause in 1920.

The partition of Ireland like its occupation and colonisation is unjustifiable. Maybe if Béal na mBláth never happened he'd have ensured the boundary commission and the evolution of the settlement went a different way. We will never know.

Fine Gael are running their social media lately as if Collins was a founding member. He was in fact a member of Sinn Féin.

If MM today signals anything, it's that in a post GFA world, 26 county politics no longer has the FF FG rancour of old and to all intents and purposes they are the one party. Not only will they not wait for the other to leave they'll be openly chatting with each other and looking forward to the independence and freedom that Collins negotiated as if Collins thought the job was done.
