The mica issue

Almost 300 houses for sale on Daft in donegal and yet those whose houses are destroyed are looking for well over 400k from the government to rebuild.

The concrete levy introduced in the budget is causing friction among back benchers, Surely to god the quarry owners have to make a sizeable contribution,
No Jimmy. The builders and engineers are the problem. That same quarry supplied large parts of NI with the exact same products, but they're not having problems. The border doesn't magically remove mica, so what's the difference? It's that the blocks were used for the correct purpose and the correct render was used.

Just a heads up for anyone who's not a geologist: mica is present in practically every single rock type, bar limestone. Quarries in Ireland are situated in every rock type we have, but the problem only exists in places with a high driving rain index, where blocks of the incorrect strength were used.
