The Gaelic Football Thread

it’s telling how utterly shit gaelic football has become that all of these need be proposed to be introduced. half the stuff they’re proposing would need a referee in each half to keep an eye on.
Hardly revolutionary stuff either, more sticky plasters, none of which will change the fundamental issue of packed defences and slow build up play.

There's one simple change that will sort football at all levels, and that's moving to 13 a side. How this group has been together for about year and failed to arrive at this obvious change is just mind boggling.

Eliminate or curb the use of hand passing is surely the first step before anything else.

agreed.
as a fella who played as a back for most of his matches the attacking mark is beyond bullshit. no reward for a defender taking a mark over a forward.

i’ve played aussie rules for around ten years and, even though in an overall sense the game is less skilful, the game is fair to both defenders and attackers.

afaic, gaelic football should adopt a tackle and mark system similar to afl. it’d put pay to cynical tackles and reward kick passes.

I'm not sure what you mean by the first paragraph. There is a mark for a defender winning it cleanly off the foward. Or perhaps you mean the forward has the opportunity to score?

In that case could they look at not being able to scorefrom the mark (like a possession free) to even things out?

afaik there’s no defensive mark in gaelic football. i haven’t watched or played it in maybe three years or so.

the only instances where a mark is awarded is a clean catch outside the 45 from a kickout or inside the 45 on the attack after a 20m pass from outside the 45.

i’m open to correction a defender taking a mark over a forward doesn’t get rewarded.

the gaa have a fantastic way of complicating the most simple of things.

You think, that's very interesting, I would have always though the opposite, that ball must be harder to kick than a round one.
the oval ball is actually easier to kick i find. you’re kicking a ball on the same point all the time unless you’re going for torpedoes or kicking a grubber.

the round ball is awful to kick because there’s more of a technique to it.

obviously i’ve played at a dog shit level (despite getting an ireland cap ??? )
