Songs that reference other songs

The parallels are uncanny, believe you me. Right down to leading a student revolt in Chríost Rí for the right to wear red socks.

But I thought you were bourgeois? Weren't you one of the kids with the furniture from Habitat who hung out with Pandora Braithwaite as an equal?

I thought that this would be a good place to record my disgust at the recent "I wish I was a mole in the ground" farce on RTÉ. What kind of stupid way is that to try and succeed in affairs of the heart? Yeah, you want to become a small nocturnal burrowing animal that's almost blind. That'll really help you become a better lover alright. Fucks sake like. They even kill earthworms by biting off their heads. Hardly a way to succeed with the birds. Says it all really.

What? Explain for those of us that have been out of the country.

Edited to add, I think a blind nocturnal burrower might be just what the doctor orders for TnaD...

RTÉ played a really bad song. I mean I'm all for public service broadcasting, but I'm shocked to see my license fee go towards such a mockery. Nobody was interested though.

Here is the song. Shocking.

It took me some time to gather these links. I hope you're happy.

REM - Wake Up Bomb is about Oasis and the fellow Britpop groups that Stipe has no time for, e.g.
'Yeah, atomic, supersonic
What a joke, I'm dumb
See ya, don't wanna be you
Lunch meat, Pond scum'

He also mentions 'I had to teach the world to sing, by the age of 21', which Oasis in turn referred to in Shakermaker and a B-Side whose title I can't remember.

I'm not really happy to be honest. (Stop with the accusing everyone of being other posters, will ya?!)

The clip sounds grand to me. The clip says nothing about affairs of the heart, or indeed, affairs of the earthworm. It just says "I wish I was a mole in the ground, I would dig that mountain down" or something like that. Was she a big girl, like? Is that how it ends?

A song I heard tonight for the first time, Thirteen (13?) by Wilco, I think it has a line about 'Paint It Black' in it? On the other hand, this could be one for misheardlyrics.com too...

Right song, wrong band - it's by Big Star, although I suppose it's possible that Wilco covered it.
