Simon Shit For Brains Coveney (FG)

This upper class right-wing political dynasty TD has done absolutely nothing for Cork since he was elected to the Dail. He has not achieved anything positive for Cork since he entered the Dail via his father's seat.

As Minister for Housing, a position many believe he only took to help him with his Fine Gael leadership ambitions, Coveney proved to be completely incompetent. For six months, he unquestioningly parroted the line that new ESB connections represented newly built houses. Later it was discovered that this was not the case and that the true figure for new builds was considerably lower. It was approximated 1/5 of what Coveney had been claiming.

Simon Coveney (FG) did more to increase rents in this country than any other politician. He introduced Rent Pressure Zones. However, against expert advice, Coveney decided to introduce a lead-in time for their introduction. This decision meant that landlords were incentivised to raise rents before the introduction of Rent Pressure Zones. This is exactly what they did. They increased rents as a direct reaction to Coveney's policy.

Rent Pressure Zones only work where they are introduced immediately. Coveney's actions meant that they led to increased rents when they were introduced. This was the exact opposite of what had been intended. This led to increased homelessness and increased poverty.

I think it no accident that former Fine Gael TD Dara 'The Man Who Wasn't There' Murphy sided with Coveney in the Fine Gael leadership contest of 2017. Perhaps he recognised a fellow spoofer? It was also clear that Fianna Fail hoped Coveney would be appointed leader of Fine Gael because they knew they could easily beat him.

In Cork Coveney's so called 'pet project' the events centre still has not been built. The site remains an empty eye-sore at the heart of the city.

If voters want to see positive meaningful developments that are delivered and well thoughtout progressive policies that help society, they need to stop voting for upper class right-wing spoofers who are the products of inherited wealth and who have no relevant life experience, no skills or abilities.

I trust you are aware that the up coming election is for the election of TD's to a National Parliament.

Local issues such as you mentioned are for Councillors which represent areas of the country in which they are elected to represent.
So some of the stuff you mentioned should be addressed to the City Council.

This is the biggest issue in this country, do people want the Healy Rae types or what?
Where local politics is all that matters?

Granted he has done fuck all for Cork but I think some of it is bad luck as well.

A high Court challenge by some shower of NIMBY's in Mount Oval to stop the proposed M28.

Live Nation telling BAM that the original design of the Event Cebtre was not big enough so it had to go back to the drawing board and well Bam are Bam and have their own way of doing business and came back with their hands out for more money.
Then the thing is almost given planning and some local nutter puts in an objection on the last day before the thing was granted.

Then The Dunkettle Interchange, Sisk got a first phase contract for preliminary ground works for this project.
The contract was set up as a 2 phase type project so we would not have another situation whereby the tax payer was being screwed.
Sisk submitted a cost for phase 2 of this project and the Dept of Transport felt it appropriate to re tender that phase 2 part of the construction phase.

To be fair, the National Debt is not at all being spoken about in this election and it is like the proverbial elephant in the room.
We are still deeply in debt but no one is reminding us of that fact.

Bill is a flat cap kinda guy I’d say ... black economy suits him best and all he wants his td to do is get him his pension book
Third world is full of electorate like that

Bill seems to have form on this, it appears that all politicians to him with the exception of Sinn Fein are a bunch of cunts!

I dunno. There’s a lot of truth to what Bill is saying and sometimes the truth hurts and is bitter.
When you don a yellow vest and hard hat to turn a sod on a so called ‘pet project’ as Simon did with his cronies, in order to win votes from your people, that puts you into a seat of substantial power then there’s an onus on you to at least return the trust put in you by those very people. He aligned himself with the project. It cheats the electorate in order to line their own pockets.
Now maybe the electoral system is broken and needs a complete overhaul. A system where people of Coveney’s limited qualities can only ever make it to some sort of councillor. Because we would parse the island into provincial groups where a limited cream of the crop are put forward by their respective provincial councils. That will ensure a national government/cabinet where we could have a SF minister for housing, a FF minister for justice, a FG minister for children, a Lab minister for jobs etc etc. It would mean they would all have to work as a national team and the parish pump politics will stay with councils that have real powers.

.

Rich Boy Barrett brings it up every time he opens his mouth.
Think FG, Lab, SF don't want to rattle the cage too much - their own manifestos pre 2007 called out FF for not spending the funny money from the bubble quickly enough.

OK: here are things promised by National government but not delivered under the FG regime: event centre, flood defence scheme, NTA Office in Cork, M28,
M20, Northern Ring Road, Upgraded Dunkettle Interchange, Quality Bus Corridors, location of new acute hospital, (note “location,” not actual hospital), etc. Etc. Etc.

520,000 people live in Cork, all politics are local, and I couldn’t give a flying fawk about the metro to Dublin Airport

All ground to a halt on Simon's watch. It's probable that some of it might get built if Mehole is Taoiseach, and Small Mickey is Minister for Finance, but if the Greens get their say then none of it will be done, with the possible exception of Quality Bus Corridors. Of course it would only be with electric busses which will be on order for about 6 years so don't expect anything dramatic too soon
