Kerch bridge is closed down. There is no news if IL-22 managed to land.

There is first information from the other side. One of the main military bloggers, Boris Rozhin, writes that the IL-22 was not shot down, it landed, but there are injuries on board. He also writes that as for the A-50 there is no information.

I hope this is true and it would be huge news, and dramatically more important than say the news of another Russian ship being sunk. It has escaped notice of most but the A-50s in use: apparently 2 of them, have been creating many, many issues for Ukraine and are a contributing reason to some Ukraine air losses. Of all the targets on the dartboard for Ukraine's military downing an A-50 is in the first tier.

We have ample evidence of Russia experiencing great difficulty maintaining air assets - the reports of another large Russian aircraft having issues are occurring almost daily. My gut check is a mechanical issue if true.

You are claiming 2 planes, the A-50 and also an IL-22M were shot down. IL-22Ms are used as mobile command posts.

If so I am wondering how Ukraine accomplished this. It could only be a Patriot system and they would have had to deploy it within 20-40km of the front line for a scoot and shoot. And you can scoot and shoot with Patriot although not quite as quickly as with some other systems. They probably would have only brought one launcher so 5 pieces: the C&C, the radar, the power unit, the mast group and one launcher with its full missile pack.

Russia’s offensive battalion attack west from Verbove has been a success. Russia has survived so far, and todays successful offensive has bolstered their survival. When you're buying North Korean ammunition, you’re bound to eventually see the benefits.

It's entirely likely Ukraine can lose and Russia can win, but even with the slowdown of Ukrainian advances Russia is still is suffering from critical resource shortages that prevent it from actually capitalizing on its advantages.

If Russia wins at this point, the damage to its military reputation will be sizable. Orders for Russian export vehicles have basically dried up, and not many nations believe they can count on Russia as a military ally. Adversaries of Russia now know exactly how powerful its forces are at the strategic level against a minor and (initially) not well armed foe, and how effective cold war surplus munitions (Javelins and HIMARS were literally designed to kill Soviets) are against "modern" Russian forces. There is literally no way Russia is coming out of this war without a fight.

The russian battalion consists of 2 - 4 companies, and has from 250 to 1000 people. Rather in the lower ends knowing russian issues with staffing levels especially in Verbove area.
