Main news pagePrime Time is probably the only show that RTE produce that is watchable. In general the content RTE produce is self-indulgent dog shit. I am guessing Crankycorner works for RTE?
It was Micheal Martin who insisted on keeping the RTE TV licence fee. Perhaps he is trying to buy positive media coverage for the next election. Catherine Martin wanted to scrap the licence fee but she was overruled by Martin.
Retaining the licence fee is a really stupid decision that no one apart from Fine Gael and Fianna Fail were in favour of. I haven't paid the RTE TV licence in more than 10 years. I'm not gonna start now. And after that announcement a few days ago, I feel even better about not paying it. This is Fine Gael and Fianna Fail sponsored incompetence of the worst kind. The RTE licence fee should have been abolished. Thanks to Fine Gael and Fianna Fail it is being kept.

RTE delivers what Catherine Martin wants (climate hysteria, promoting hate speech laws, etc.) and so she's happy to give them a billion. FFG play along and RTE protects it from the Shinners.Adding in what we will be paying in licence fees to the grant of €725 million, we will be handing RTE almost €1,000 million over the next 3 years.
And hardly a word about it. They get advertising revenue on top of that.
Have we gone totally bonkers? Surely there are more deserving causes that this money could be spent on? Trivial things like health, housing or (dare I say it) some small tax cuts?
Privately owned stations have advertising revenue only. This totally skews the market in favour of the state owned enterprise.
Surely a case could be brought to Europe about unfair competition?
It's their culture.
She wanted the licence fee scrapped. It was more senior people in government that wanted it retained.RTE delivers what Catherine Martin wants (climate hysteria, promoting hate speech laws, etc.) and so she's happy to give them a billion. FFG play along and RTE protects it from the Shinners.
