I liked Shutter Island as well, it shows he is versatile and not a shtick actor

I think he is a great actor. He annoys the everloving shit out of me though, which I find hard to put aside when seeing him in a film.

What does he annoy me?

He seems smug, he is incapable of having a relationship with a woman over 25 (despite being well into his 40s) and his pontificating about the environment while travelling the world on his private jet/super yacht irritates me.

Thought he was rubbish in that. Can't play the hero type. Would have been a much better film if it had been a Neeson v Day Lewis war. The opening scene was brilliant, the rest of it was crap imo.
Thought he was excellent in The Basketball Diaries tbf.
