Went to see Dog Man with the kids today.

Between my two fellas, I reckon I've read every book in that series 5 or 6 Dozen times.

For anyone without small kids Dog Man is probably the most popular comic globally for the last 15 years or so. It shits all over Spidey, Batman and the Avengers etc. in terms of popularity and sales.

They do a decent job. The tone of it is good and it's consistent with the books. The kids loved it but even though wasn't exactly laugh out loud, it packed enough silly rubbish in there to pass the 90mins.

Needless to say, the books are better.

It's grand for the smallies on midterm like
Dogman was fucking terrible. Brought the crotch goblin to it yesterday and I was exhausted after it.

Geared directly at kids with adhd, not one scene lasted for more than 5 seconds. There is literally a robot in it called 80-HD.

By the end there were kids rolling round the aisles in full meltdowns.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it but neither of us are the target demographic.

I wouldn't say kids with ADHD either just that it's aimed at kids. All the kids in our screening were obviously familiar with the story and characters and shrieked whenever a favourite entered the story

Dav Pilkey has spoken about him having ADHD and memories of getting fucked out of class repeatedly. He credits it with his creativity. That's why the Cat kids superpowered sidekick is called 80-HD.

If you haven't read the books with your kids they have some kind of magic literacy power. Or at least has over both my kids and also at least 4 of my Nephews and Nieces.

I remember googling best comic for kids 5 or 6 years ago and being distinctly unimpressed on arrival but it lit some kind of fire in my eldest kid about reading for pleasure and that magic seems to have transferred to my youngest fella too.

I credit all the Dav Pikey creations, Dog Man, Captain Underpants and Ricky Recotta for a good chunk of that

My two are great fans of his stuff too. My son is going to world book day as lil Peaty ;-)

Apart from the "yippee ki yay" line I thought there was little in it for the parents (compared to a Pixar or the likes) but the kids loved it and it looked great.
