Papier-mâché and marla.

On some reflection here is my choice: Papier-mâché.

There are 2 main reason for this.

When different coloured mala (this is what we used to call it - we couldn't afford r's) are mixed by some silly langers, the resulting colour is invariable disgusting to the human eye and this process can never be reversed.

Plus:
A head made from papier-mâché helped, in no small way, Clint Eastwood to escape from Alcatraz Island.
Is it wasn't for papier-mâché, cinema classics like Dirty Harry and In the Line of Fire would never have been made.

You may argue that he could have made the head from mala too.
And you may be right.
But, mala would never have made it into a grown mens prison.
Newpapers get in everywhere.
