Usually followed by the word wit. As in 'rapier-like wit'. I'd have gone for 'cutting insights' but shur, what'd I know, like?

The only entertainment was the chanting betwen the supporters. Liverpool looked to hoof it to Crouch far too often. Every move broke down when the midfield looked to get it forward and Crouch was isolated. Although, to be fair to him, he won everything in the air but the support was slow or in the wrong areas. Utd were just as bad with Rooney a shadow of himself and Ronaldo trying to find every blind alley in the ground.

Ban 451!

The midfield was so packed the back 4 didn't have much choice but to knock it over the top. There were 10 players strung across the middle, just nowhere to go.

Nail on the head. Utd were forced to do pretty much the same thing apart from the odd Ronaldo run because of the midfield congestion. All the talent on the pitch ended up stifled.

Seems to work for Chelsea though.

It's worked for Benitez in the past too. Unfortunately, in its present guise, it hasn't really worked for us.

The 4-2-3-1 system in 2003 with Keane and Butt/Pip Neville anchoring and Scholes, Giggs and Solskjaer in behind RVN worked well as all of the latter three were in quite an advanced position, interchanging freqently and giving RVN decent support. This so called 4-3-3 (For that read 4-5-1 zzzz) is never going to come good.

It works for Chelsea because they have the right type of player to turn translate it into an overwhelming attack at a moments notice.
