Junior A Hurling Championship 2024

Winning the division 2 league and junior b county would the first positive year for them in hurling for the last 15 years! Have to start somewhere. Too much of a gap between the top and bottom Jun A sides, especially in north Cork.

Could someone explain what is going on with the Avondhu Div 1 hurling league? 3 teams finished level on points but walkovers are effecting the points difference. Talks of appeals to county board etc. Big carrot being that the winners go up to county league with Kilshanig relegated from bottom div.

From start of league it was too 2 in final with dromina v Killavullen fishing above lic gaels on scoring difference ,dromina wanted to put back there last game with lc gaels a fornight as with injuries and exams and 2 suspended they hadn’t a team but they wouldn’t change it so dromina gave them pts , now it seems lc gaels want to change rules ,there’s also something bout email been out from avondhu board but I’m sure a former member of board is pulling a few strings

I decided to go through all the results of the Division 1 league, as per the Avondhu GAA website. I am a neutral so no skin in this. So this is what I added up:

LC Gaels
Total pts = 13 (W6 D1 L1)
Total scored = 159
Total conceded = 106
Score difference = +53

Dromina
Total pts = 13 (W6 D1 L1)
Total scored = 150
Total conceded = 98
Score difference = +52

Killavullen
Total pts = 13 (W6 D1 L1)
Total scored = 165
Total conceded = 110
Score difference = +55

As all 3 teams finished on 13 points each, it goes to score difference. A walkover is worth 2 points on the board and +7 in the scoring difference, as Dromina conceded their game v LC Gaels and Mallow conceded their games against all 3 teams.

So according to my calculations, Killavullen's score difference is +55, LC Gaels' score difference is +53 and Dromina's score difference is +52. So going by that, it should be Killavullen v LC Gaels in the final.

Thanks for that NCS, you can see why LC Gaels would appeal it.
AFAIK, any game that was awarded as a walk over is not counted for points difference.

Cork GAA 2024 competition rules which are publicly available online are very clear on this situation.
When 2 or more teams finish level on points but any of those teams are affected by a walkover then the tie is decided differently and in the following order:
1) Head to Head: Who won the most league points from the head to head games only between the teams that finished level
2) Highest Total Scoring difference from the head to head games only
3) Highest scores for in the head to head games only
4) Highest number of goals scored in the head to head games
5) A Play off.

The points difference, scores for and goals scored figure to be used for walkovers is calculated as follows. You calculate their average for those from the entire league campaign (all games they actually played) and use those score figures for any walkover games they are involved in.

It’s all very simple really, and shouldn’t cause any confusion. Ive no idea what the story is down in Avondhu though. Someone is thick anyway. Perhaps the local board have made a mess of things themselves and ignored the competition rules. They wouldn’t be the first local board to try to do that!
With promotion to the county league the prize the stakes are extremely high alright. If fellas can’t add 2+2 down there then Supa Valu PUC will sort it in 5 minutes for em all.

Ballinora to go and win the county imo, good team last yr and surely a few minors will play apart aswell. Might open up muskerry junior hurling with them gone, although a loss of quality in the division as a result for sure

Let’s be real, Buttevant have the ability to be Junior A but simply dropped to Junior B to put more focus on football, and to win an “easy” county medal. Couldn’t face up to tough games in Junior A, even though they have the quality.

Ballyclough got to the final last year and are definitely good enough to beat them.

Rossa and Ivleary will be a very even game but ultimately the winner of Ballyclough and Buttevant should go on to win it out.
Joey would have much preferred the hurlers to stay Junior A, with minimal training getting beat in every game and knocked out good and early.

Some effort being put in along with deep county runs is the last thing the football would've wanted.
