Choo Choo!!!

I've a buddy who quit tech to raise bees,

In 2017 he had 300 hives, and was at it full time, kept it pure, etc.

The stuff tasted amazing, unrecognisable from supermarket stuff.

From about 2018 onwards, it became clear that he could no longer import supplies (queens), frames, supplies, etc from mainland Europe in a commercially viable way.

He said that almost all of the guys doing pure honey back then, are mixing it with syrup or adding Vanilla or Ginger to give it some flavour, they're also taking more from the hives than before, which can stress the bees, make them sick, etc, and has led to a disproportionate number of colonies collapsing in the south of England.

Add to that, some agri chemicals which were unbanned, and caused a lot of wildflowers to collapse in the south of England.

Anyway, he's back at the tech full time.

The UK voted to leave the EU in 2016 and formally exited in January 2020. The departure has made it harder for some companies to find workers and more difficult for domestic manufacturers to sell into the EU, while also allowing the UK to seek trade deals independent of the EU. The UK is the only developed economy not to have recovered to pre-Covid levels of GDP growth, and is struggling with tight labor market conditions with 600,000 fewer workers than before the pandemic.
Dead, emigrated, returned home, or retired early because the private pension tax system is too generous, and taxes are too high.

I assume he's seen the docu "more than honey". Follows a swiss and American bee keeper. Touches on a lot of what your post mentions.

He could be producing the best honey on the planet but he cannot export it as the U.K. refuses to even test or regulate.

This is why the E.U. does not trust the British Government.
