Irish history in our schools....lies still being told??

What sort of lies are the children being told in the schols these days? Is the '16 Rising still being sold as one of the greatest occasions in Irish history rather than the comedic opera that it was from start to finish.

Have they ever been told of some of the horrific atrocities that occurred during the Civil War?

T'was hilarious stuff alright, all those men dying for their country.
There should be a remake with Ben Stiller or Jim Carey.

Its indicative of the esteem the world has for Cork and its people that so many foreigners come to this small site even if some of them are trolls.

It is many years since I studied history in school and I wasnt taught that the 1916 rising was a great occasion in irish History.

just like the brits @ Dunkirk

famous gallant defeats can have as much power as victories

history should be impartial, but rarely is

Despite the idea that you all think of me as a rabid Republican I raised my children in America where they did not get any propaganda from either side regarding this little island.
The only thing that they constantly got was "Stay away from alcohol". It used to make me angry and now I just go, meh.

Of course now they have all become interested in their "roots" and to a child have become socialist republicans. Religion is the big thing here or was. I'm a Catholic but none of my children are practicing Catholics two have converted to other faiths and the other three are agnostic.

Epic fail on my part I reckon.

If you have an epic fail--then so do I. Our stories are similiar. I will say that I am happy the way my kids turned out.

The lack of planning and total screwing up of obtaining any serious weapons was actually quite funny.
Not Jim Carey funny, more Mr. Bean funny.

That coupled with the fact that the Irish general public at the time did not support the action, and that it was a failure, makes the celebration of the day somewhat questionable.
