What would you rather have, an educated workforce, or the best universities in the world?

I don't think we need an Oxbridge to run the country successfully.

Bang for buck, I think we do a lot better than the likes of the UK, and we don't saddle people with a mortgage for every arts degree.

Any politician who says before an election that you or your family will not have to pay for stuff is deluded and only electioneering.

The State cannot pay for everything anyway and whatever about Oxbridge Irish universities are suffering huge financial shortfalls just to keep the lights on nevermind capital spend or research etc.

Two thirds of 25-34 year old's in Ireland now have third level qualifications, the highest in Europe where the E.U. average is 43% so they must be doing something right in the past 30 years.

WT Cosgrave and those that handed over power to Dev in 1932. Free staters at the time feared the damage that Dev and FF could do in power to unwork what they had built upon. There were suggestions of a coup. It may sound unrealistic in todays age but it was a new state and other European countries at the time were succumbing to totalitarian dictatorships. But they respected the voice of the people and democracy, handing over power peacefully. It’s the most crucial single event of our new states history in my opinion.
