Intermediate A football 2021

What is your reasoning for that? Considering they’ve broken their relegation habits over the last 2 years finishing third twice in the group.
Winning one game 10-9 is hardly going to guarantee them safety from danger zone going forward especially with the way the grades are finally being made more competitive

I think he’s just looking for a reaction Skinslad 😂 3 of those teams won junior counties in the last 7 years, what more does a team have to do to deserve to be intermediate 🤷🏻‍♂️
I think a separate arguement is that there’s too many grades and more should be shoved down junior. A lot of teams in the lower intermediate grade wouldn’t win the junior

This point has been said a good few times before, but isn’t really the case when you actually sit down and go through the teams.

Duhallow:
Boherbue just won it, Dromtarriffe, Millstreet and Ballydesmond would all win Duhallow if down at junior A level.

Imokilly:
Glanmire and Glenville would walk to an east cork title at junior A.

Muskerry:
Aghabullogue more than capable of winning a Muskerry junior A, and Ballinora would be making a semi final there at the very least.

Carbery:
Gabriel Rangers would fancy their chances of winning a divisional title given the standard of west cork junior A at the moment.

Beara:
Only one other team in this, and Adrigole would win it hands down.

Avondhu:
Mitchelstown, Kilshannig and Glanworth would all win Avondhu if down there, Kildorrery in fairness struggled at intermediate this year and just survived. But that said, they’d be expecting to make an Avondhu final at the very least if they were to go down.

Seandún:
Barrs 2nd team were always competitive at junior a level, winning seandun in 2011 and have been a strong intermediate side since 2015.
St Nicks are a tough one to call, is it 2 or 3 consecutive relegations now? But eventually they’ll find their level and that could well be junior A.

When you break it down there are actually very few teams that wouldn’t win their division at junior A level, and almost all are capable of winning a junior A county.

There are very few clubs left down at junior A level that you would say should be playing at intermediate level, Boherbue have been knocking on the door the last 5 years and finally made it up. There’s an argument there for Kilmurry not fulfilling their potential, especially given they brought nemo to a reply in u21 county final a few years back. Canovee are decent but we’re relegated from intermediate in 2013. Look at the junior A divisional winners this year, and is there really any of them who are worth their spot at intermediate level more than teams up there? Urhan? Bride Rovers? Kilworth? Nowhere near the level. Douglas 2nd team were relegated from intermediate as recently as 2017. Tadhg McCarthaighs are decent but will struggle as the O’Driscolls get older. Kilmacabea seemed to be on the right track for a bit but have struggled since, they need other players to come through and support Gore. Ballinhassig had a good season, but is that a flash in the pan or will they continue to do so? Another run to a junior county title and they’d be more than worth their spot at intermediate level.

I think the amount of grades is right for a county the size of cork the more teams that can be competitive in their competitions the better. What killed the whole thing was no relegation for years there was no clear out of bad teams. The best example of this is nicks they are in total free fall since it came in and rightly so.

Spot on fruice. New system is great and really levelling out the standard of each of the grades.

And yes for the amount of clubs in cork it’s correct to have this many grades. If we had 16 more teams down at junior A level, that’s potentially another 16 teams who made a divisional final this year not making a final, and football as a whole in the county suffers.

The sooner they introduce county junior football leagues instead of divisional, and ideally an open county junior football championship - the better.

100% when the Junior is sorted out all teams if you are good enough will find there levels , and you keep climbing the levels if you are good enough ..we at last have great and exciting championships and with the split season coming all going well ..this can only get even more exciting.

The old system where a club could decide to go up or down a grade had to go. The new system with 12 or 16 teams in each grade is good and four grades above junior is right for a big county with 200+ clubs. Dont think too many would object if we rename the grades with a view to clubs having a fairer chance in Munster-we have a very poor record v Kerry at junior(14-3 to Kerry) and inter(13-4) level. No other Munster county had won one of these title in 17 years which really shows that Kerry are taking the p. Maybe there should be two up and two down as in Dublin. There they have also split the junior and inter championships into one for clubs whose first team are at that grade and another for second and third teams. This is not needed in Cork as the second teams of clubs like Nemo and the Barrs are not that strong. I like the divisional junior championships, they give small clubs, like Aghinagh this year, a chance to have a day in the sun.

Of course the divisionals are great finals etc...but they are now too lopsided Carbery with 22 teams and Beara with one you cant sustain that ...
