Immigration Thread

Post WW2 usually refers to 1945 to 1959, even maybe the very early 60s

Statty though wants to pretend it really includes 1972 onward to try apportion some of the blame for the UK being skint on to the IRA
As per usual you simply jump to daft conclusions about: "the UK being skint on to the IRA"

The U.K. was the "Sick man of Europe" until it joined the E.E.C. (E.U.) in 1973 and it eventually caught up.

A complete basket case and the IMF even had to come in back in 1976.

The rose tinted glasses of a pastoral pure Britain is just revisionist nonsense.

Was this "sick man of Europe" not a net contributor soon after it joined? And if you think the UK was the "sick man of Europe" before joining the EU, just what in hell do you think Ireland was.

BTW, apart from the Officials bombing in 1972, the Provos didn't start a bombing campaign til later

No one is arguing that Ireland wasn't an impovrished inward looking country with mass emigration, high unemployment and under developed and run by the church.

Joining the E.U. arrested the post WW2 decline for the U.K. and brought Ireland into modernity and prosperity.

There you go with post WW2 timeline nonsense again Statty. Even if you googled it you'd know

I know.......

These "Youth" are mostly in education or work. There's been a great reduction in the number of young people not in employment, education or training ("NEET") in Ireland. The % halved in the past decade - now less than 10% of those aged 15-29 are in this category, mainly due to unemployment/family care.

Numbers working in Ireland surpassed 2.7 million in the final months of 2023, yet another record, and close to the total population in the late 1950s.

The long-term unemployment rate in Ireland has declined rapidly - now just over 1% of all those unemployed here are out of work long-term. This is half the average rate seen in other EU countries.

Do you expect the Gardai to tell The Sun the motive before they have completed an investigation, interviews?
How does that work in your world

"Gardai are unsure of a motive for the attack"?
