Statty though wants to pretend it really includes 1972 onward to try apportion some of the blame for the UK being skint on to the IRA

The U.K. was the "Sick man of Europe" until it joined the E.E.C. (E.U.) in 1973 and it eventually caught up.

These "Youth" are mostly in education or work.There's been a great reduction in the number of young people not in employment, education or training ("NEET") in Ireland. The % halved in the past decade - now less than 10% of those aged 15-29 are in this category, mainly due to unemployment/family care.




Numbers working in Ireland surpassed 2.7 million in the final months of 2023, yet another record, and close to the total population in the late 1950s.

The long-term unemployment rate in Ireland has declined rapidly - now just over 1% of all those unemployed here are out of work long-term. This is half the average rate seen in other EU countries.
