The Gardai aren't useless, they are hamstrung by a snowflake Justice minister who is so far out of her depth, "the crims have rights" my hole they do. You should read the regs and paperwork for using paper spray.
They will do f'all till that case against the garda doing his job is sorted as well.
The gardai weren't required to use pepper spray, all they had to do was stop the person right in font of them, who happened to be a journalist, from being intimidated and man-handled, the notion that they can't do that because of an inept minister is ridiculous.
They just stood there like dummies, then two other guards walked past as if they were out for an afternoon stroll.
That is unbelievable.I'm sure the Garda Commissioner and the Public Order Unit will find your tips on crowd control extremely useful.
The RTE Investigates show didn't even scratch the surface of the background of Paul Collins the owner of the site in Coolock.
Collins was portrayed as almost a philanthropist who wasn't providing accommodation for just profit. In reality since 2021, his company Townbe Ltd has pocketed over €43 million for housing refugees in rundown buildings, all paid for by the Dept. of Children.

You'd think this would be a bigger story than one or two knuckledraggers using racist language to security staff.

Why should it have gone into that? That is not why the protestors say they are protesting anyway, and if it should be gone into then it a separate documentary/investigation as the one on Thursday night was never supposed to be about that.I'm sure the Garda Commissioner and the Public Order Unit will find your tips on crowd control extremely useful.

And is what he is doing illegal or something? No, so why does it warrant an investigation? Yes he is making money out of it but again what is wrong with that? It reminds me of the attitude towards all developers after the crash. I’d have a problem with it if the properties do not meet the standards required, I would have a problem with it if he was getting preferential treatment or contracts…………and of course I’d have a problem with it if I was against asylum seekers being given accommodation!!

WhataboutIts funny you should mention that. Coolock site owner Collins was......bailed out by NAMA to the tune of €45million

What was very funny about the RTE Investigates show was Collins claims that he has had to flee the country (he’s in Lisbon).
Obviously pure coincindence that with his slum accomodation posting €43 million in earnings from the Department of children that he is residing in a country with a favourable Non-Habitual Residency tax regime. Poor old Paul has to endure 183 days in Portugal PA and his Irish earnings are tax-free.
The refugee and asylum seeker accommodation business is booming and operators like Collins who had their previous debts wiped clean are making an absolute killing.
But yeah racist language from two or three neanderthals directed at security on Collins Coolock site is the real story here. And if you believe that you will believe anything. ?
