"€1m so far has been paid in interest to hotels and other private accommodation providers as a result of the Government failing to pay them on time for housing Ukrainians fleeing the war"

Like wtf? The exchequer is rolling in money and the government can't even pay their buddie..., I mean the hoteliers on time so they have to fork out another million?

I think skilled labour should be welcomed and people who really need asylum but the ones who get rid of their identity documents should be removed if found not to be genuine. You can't take in the whole world and while some in left leaning parties would like that, The people that are coming are low-skilled which will also be competing with the native working class in all areas including housing, health and school etc.

It seems to be mostly people in well off wealthy areas are all for accepting everyone in but they won't have to compete against these people and probably have their own homes and nice jobs so are setup in life. Also you have parties like FFG who are also for this as they're the parties of the wealthy and rich who own businesses like in the hospitality sector where these people can be employed for a low wage.

We hear all about "There's a labour shortage" or "Nobody wants to work"(Hospitality sector uses the latter a lot) but the reason nobody wants those jobs is because it's hard work for low to little pay. The import of these low skilled people is also a wage suppression tactic.

Remember that there's around 446 million people in the EU with freedom of movement but yet we have businesses(Hospitality among others) wanting to have visa rules relaxed so they can't get people in from outside the EU. When it comes down to it is that FFG and business and wealthy people aren't really doing this out of the goodness of their hearts and under the guise of being nice but it helps in various ways and one of them is wage suppression.
