I grew up in a Cork City where it was commonplace....

for people to be out washing their car (those who had one) on a Saturday morning. There were no Auto Car Wash machines around, and people could spend half an hour or more using a bucket of water, a cloth, and a "shammy" to clean off and polish up their car.
