I grew up in a Cork City where it was commonplace....

to have access to a bike when you were a teenager. You either owned one of your own or you could borrow one for day.

Can well remember cycling to places that were quite a distance from home such as Crosser, or Myrtleville, or Fountainah, or even closer to home like out to Blarney, or Hell Hole or the like. And for all those cycle trips being undertaken by loads of feral youths, back then there was never a demand for separate cycle paths.

Would you be happy for your kids to cycle to Crosshaven via Carr's Hill as things stand?

My kids wouldn't even cycle to Douglas these days 😔

The antics of cyclists (well one in particular) in and around Carr's Hall has done nothing for the live-and-let-live relationship there should always be between cyclists and motorists, and alas there are C*nt motorists too, but there's more than one road between Douglas and Carrigaline, and Carr's Hill isn't even universally safe for motorists, never mind cyclists.

When I was growing up there was respect for other people rather than the selfishness we see on the road all too often these days.

:ROFLMAO:
Two cars in one household wasn't a thing til the late 80s or 90s I'd say. In the 60s and 70s a lot of households had no car. You were kinda posh if your family owned a car. Quite a number of homes didn't even have a telephone - trying to explain that to kids these days :ROFLMAO:

Great weekend for a spin on the bike Soundy. Maybe take a rod with you and some polarised sunglasses

Rare I played pool in there.

Always thought that was reserved for the scummy norrie bully boys.

It was the video game machines downstairs for me.. And the pinball machine.
It took courage, but I think my scout uniform frightened them off, or just confused them. I was a champion at the Gorf though.
