Does anybody remember: Cork Hibernians in 1972

Hello,

I am an Schalke 04-Fan from Germany and i'm working for the football-website weltfussball.de or worldfootball.net.

In 1972 Schalke 04 played Cork Hibernians in the Cup Winners Cup. Now i want to publish the two games with all details in worldfootball.net. For this i need your help. It is very difficult to find information about Cork Hibernian players of the early seventies. Does anybody remember the Cork-Stars of that time?

For some players like Dave Bacuzzi or Miah Dennehy, it wasn't difficult to find some information. (http://www.worldfootball.net/teams/cork-hibernians/10/)

For others, my research was inconclusive. Has anybody more or less detailed information of the 1972 line-up?

Cork: O´Mahoney, Bacuzzi, Sheehan, Herrick, Conolly, Sweeney, Lawson, Donovan (70. Kenny), Wallace (70. Brohan), Dennehy, Wigginton

The information, i need:
First Name, Birthdate, Birthplace, Nationality, Position, played in Team x from ... to ...

I hope, some fans of Cork Hibernians read this and can help me.

Thanks and best regards

Ralf

Hi Ralf.
I was a Hibs fan and I used to go to all their home games. 1972 is a long way back. I was at that game and around the time the line-up was something like this:
Joe O Grady.
Dave Bacuzzi Martin Sheehan John Herrick Frank Connolly.
Miah Dennehy Sonny Sweeney John Lawson Gerry Finnegan
Tony Marsden. David "Wiggie" Wigginton R.I.P.

Around that time a Scottish centre-forward, Gerry Coyne, was signed but I honestly don't remember when. Apparently "Wiggie" died around 2001.
I hope this is of some help.

Ralf, that was before I was born so I wouldn't know enough about those players but I'm just replying to say that I use the weltfussball site all the time and it's excellent. I use it to keep track of any given team's recent starting lineups which is essential for any serious gambler like myself. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Thank you for your replies and @ afeencalleddan: it is nice to read, that our site is known and used in ireland :).

I have one further question:

The first mentioned player in the line-up normally is the goalkeeper. In the 1972-line-up of Cork it is O'Mahoney. I found out, that Noel O'Mahony was an defensive player. Was there another O'Mahon(e)y, who played as goalkeeper? The Cork Hibs keeper of that time was Joe O'Grady, wasn't he?

He had a heart attack I think it was, I was best mates with his son, also called Dave. Was at his funeral in Schull, was an absolute gent.

SOme great memories there. I was at quite a few Hibs games then when I was a small fella. I was at the infamous one where they were 2-0 on Watherfurd with about 20 minutes to go which would have given them the League and Waterford scored three times to win it and take the title.

Stones and bottles flying.

Alfie fucking Hale...

Well done on the research weltfussball.

Yes I remember Deccy O' Mahony too.
