Cyclists

Maybe a levy on owning a second car within the city boundaries
Serious though, most people live within easy walking distance of schools etc, is there any need for tailbacks to just drop the sleepy lazy brats at the gates while holding up those going to work who provide for them.

Has it escaped you that we live in a country that has frequent rain? I doubt it that you're in the category of people you are moaning about. When you are, get back to us and tell us how you're coping with juggling 5 or 6 balls at once.

Bus connects is not all about cycling, the clue is in the name.
BusConnects is a name designed to distract attention from the fact that it is primarily a cycle lane scheme - featuring 112km cycle lanes but only 93km of bus lanes. So basically people are losing their gardens and there will be massive upheaval to facilitate the private commuting choice of the tiny minority for whom cycling is a workable mode of transport.

What's especially galling is the spectacular waste of money on cyclists this scheme brings. The overall cost is €600 million. No breakdown is given but if we very conservatively estimate the cycling lane component of this at 20% that's €120 million. And to what end? The plan's stated aim is to increase the numbers cycling by one third*. According to the CSO the numbers commuting by cycling in Cork city and suburbs is ~2300. So they want to spend €120 million to attract an extra ~800 cyclists. That's €150,000 per cyclist. Insane! I contrast they want to triple the numbers using public transport - a far more laudable goal, and at a cost of ~€16000 per user - still huge waste of money if you ask me, but an order of magnitude less than cyclists, most of whom won't actually appear and will probably still use the road if they do.

*They've been sneaky about this. They haven't given a specific target for cyclists - instead they're looking to increase numbers "walking and cycling" by a third. As such, when all these cyclists fail to materialize they can just hide the figures with those walking.

Are you on fucking drugs? People had to move out of the city to buy houses as they were too dear. THIS is why every house has at least 2 cars.

Just buy a house on Sundays Well like ?

Gimp primary school teachers in their 20s with no kids can go f*ck off telling the rest of us whats good for us with their unrepresentative 'campaign'.

What’s with all the fucking SUV’s though at the school dropoffs. Do the mummies have to drive through fields and bogs to get somewhere these days.

Excellent post.

A tiny interest group on this are making a lot of noise.

Anyone in the city centre recently can tell you there is hardly anyone using the cycling infrastructure that has been crowbarred in the last couple of years.

7 seats? I have a friend that does a school run with 3 of her own and 2 neighbours kids. Not saying that is why she bought it but it is an advantage. It's also an EV or hybrid, not sure but it plugs in

I wonder what will be Jank's reaction to your well made post PM. He might just dismiss it as all being lies and then run away as is his wont
