Woah! Mama tonight - Free gig from 10pm. Stomping hits, sensational sass, ferocious fun, channelling divas and dudes from the 70s through to present day bootie shakers. Think Labelle, Aretha, The Bangles, Garbage, Prince, Bowie, Cardigans & much more.

Albert Niland tonight
8pm. €12. http://www.coughlans.ie/whats-on/albert-niland-11107403

Albert Niland is unquestionably one of Ireland ’s finest guitar talents. Blending various styles of intricate guitar playing, from flamenco to rock, and powerful vocals, this live show is not to be missed.

Since the release of his debut album Dirty Day in 2003, Albert Niland has received critical acclaim from every corner of the music industry. Described by musician and broadcaster Tom Dunne as “a major new talent. ” His second cd “Downtown Exit” is slightly more mainstream, with an excellent mix of light rock, latin spirit, and unique lyrics. An amazing cover from this album, “Wuthering Heights” by Kate Bush is probably his most well known work, but is unfortunate as his self penned work is indeed far better.
With airplay from Jools Holland and admiration from the likes of Jamie Cullum, Nilands’ flagship of original songwriting looks set to continue to attract international attention.

"This is refreshing, spirit-shocking music" THE IRISH TIMES

"Few have the impact of Niland" HOT PRESS

"A voice that could make the coldest heart sing" InDUBLIN Magazine

On the strength of Dirty Day, Albert was invited in to perform a few tracks off it by Tom Dunne, and that January night saw him perform the acoustic version of "Wuthering Height's" for the first time.

Gaining the respect of his peers, Albert was invited to be a guest at the two biggest reunions in Irish music history, "Planxty" in 2004, and "Moving Hearts" in 2006. Performing and recording a live album at the legendary "PARADISO" in Amsterdam, Albert quickly established a loyal fanbase on the continent.

"...high class solo performance..boundary-breaking guitar-work..from rock to flamenco, with powerful vocal lines built from his Irish roots" HET PAROOL,NETHERLANDS

In a recent article, the Sunday Times said,
"Albert has yet to achieve the recognition his experience and talent merits".

Tonight Ariel Posen & Band - 'How Long' Album Launch
With guest Briony. Tickets €15. Doors 9pm.
http://www.coughlans.ie

Singer/songwriter. Internationally-renowned guitarist. Producer. Solo artist. Member of the Juno Award-winning band, The Bros. Landreth.

A lifelong musician, there are few roles Ariel Posen hasn't played.

Although born in Winnipeg, Posen spent much of his childhood on the road, traveling from show to show with his musician parents. He began playing guitar at 9 years old, kicking off a career that eventually found him traveling the globe for his own gigs, including shows as a member of the roots-rock band The Bros. Landreth. The group built its audience on the road, opening for Bonnie Raitt one minute and performing with John Oates the next. They also won a Juno Award for their debut album, Let it Lie. Several years after accepting that award, Posen began working on an album of his own, tracking his new songs in the same studio in which his parents once recorded their albums.

How Long marks Posen's long-awaited solo debut, showcasing not only his chops as an instrumentalist, but his talents as a diverse songwriter, too. The record casts a wide net, moving from rootsy blues to R&B to melodic rock & roll. A co-writer and producer for artists of all genres, Posen shows the full range of his talents on these 10 tracks, nodding to his influences including The Beatles, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer and more along the way. How Long is not a guitar record, although there's certainly plenty of guitar to be heard here. Instead, it's a song record, filled with hooks, autobiographical lyrics, and Posen's compelling voice.

Tonight The Burma and support from Dead Network
Thurs 14 Mar | 9pm | €5

The Burma are an indie rock n'roll band based in Cork City. Influenced by the American Indie scene of the early 2000's and British guitar bands of the 80s and 90s, The Burma's jangly guitars and bouncy basslines make for refreshingly melodic songs. The line-up consists of long-time friends from Cobh Tony O'Donovan and Peter Piggott along with Doolin, Co. Clare drummer Cian Doherty whom they met on a music course in Cork in 2012.

The Burma released their debut EP Her Eyes On Horizons in June 2017. The EP featured the singles Love Fades and Sucker For Stars, both of which were met with great acclaim with Hot Press stating "The pop-rockers are as suited to the dancefloor as the dive bar, as bouncy basslines underpin earwig melodies and shimmering guitar lines". Recent releases like Love Fades suggest that they're "ready to graduate to the big time."

The Burma's latest single 'Quicksand' was released in October 2018 and has gained extensive national airplay since its release. It was also made Joe.ie Song of The Day. "This is a classic three minute pop song full of verve and melody". "The Burma are a band on the up and you really should start checking them out so you can tell your pals, you knew them before they become huge."

The Burma have supported acts such as The Academic, The Strypes, Delorentos, The Blizzards & Ryan Sheridan in the past.

In 2019 The Burma will play some of their biggest shows to date including the likes of The Liverpool Feis, Groove Festival in Bray and many more on the Irish and British festival circuit.

"Anyone in fear that the conveyor-belt of winning guitar bands might be slowing down would be well advised to check out The Burma before writing any epitaphs."- Hot Press

"It's sun-kissed, California-driving music, yet it's relevant, and it's fresh. -Golden Plec

"Jangly guitar pop at its finest."-Dan Hegarty, RTE 2FM
