Honestly I lived n worked across the pond a few times
Guinness aswell as everything they poured was putrid
( long time ago maybe they’ve improved?

I worked in a huge Irish bar in Stockwell in my late teens (1979?) for a summer and I remember Bitter and Ben being dreadful stuff. The Guinness must have been ok because all the Irish labourers drank it. Some of the older blacks drank Ben and Guinness, half and half. I can't remember which was poured 1st but it must have been woeful stuff.

A black and tan the mix was called afaicr.

Yes indeed! A Kerry couple managed it at the time. They had a tragic incident in their lives at a later stage.

Well, there was a "nightclub" at the weekends called the Hayloft. It was pretty rough.
