Cork Minor Hurling 2023

Killyoursons & Cork Abu

Cork minors drew with KK 17 points each but they defeated Galway by 6 when Niland was not playing and both games were played this year. I don't know of a game v Galway this year when Niland was playing but likely they played each other twice. Cork defeated Galway last year in Charleville at U-16 by 4 points 3-17 to 1-19 with Niland scoring 15 points and neither Barry O'Flynn or Barry Walsh played on the day. However Cork later lost to them in the AI U-16 tournament after defeating Kilkenny by 8 points. Galway went on to lose the final to Limerick. In the minor championship game last Friday night v KK Niland scored 1-13.

Thanks for that info. That U16 tournament, was that a blitz? If so, limited enough basis for evaluating a team, imo.

North Team were beaten by 1-22 to to 1-11 . Reports are that the Galway team was their second 25 players from minor panel so 25 to 50 . North Team had Sean Breslan , Liam og Hegarty , Eddie Walsh and Luke Buckley who are on extended panel with both Liam og - 8pts & Luke the best of the lot . Cork teams have 4 divisions spilt into North , East , City & Mid . Galway and example Clare only bring second 25 players to compete which puts all the Cork divisions at a disadvantage . Cork divisions have a sprinkle of maybe 3 to 4 players from extended panel with players given a chance who would have been dropped off the panel originally a couple of months ago . Players who are named on 1-24 for first 2 minor games with Cork are not allowed play celtic challange .
James o brien played for east cork against Kilkenny and was no24 for cork against Waterford

The rule is that you are eligible to play if you haven't been named on the most recent 24 man minor panel. As this was the Tipp match he becomes eligible as he wasn't on that 24.

Wouldn’t rule Midleton out . Tough battle against sars only losing by 2 points with minor star carthaigh cronin coming off injured early on .Cork star Barry o Flynn was very quiet with Thomas dunlea doing a very solid job on him

Killyoursons

It was a blitz as the games are in succession on the same day.

Bernard Burke

Was that Sars v M'ton game an U-18 County League game? How serious is Carthaigh Cronin's injury? He will be a loss if he's missing v Clare next Tuesday night.

Think he’s talking about the u16 championship match last season between Midleton and Sars

On another note, Midleton have withdrawn from u18 hurling. Given walkovers in all their remaining games. Unusual to see, especially at Premier 1 level
With that being the case I believe Bernard Burke is referring to Sars v M'ton at U-16 last year because Carthaigh Cronin didn't play the in county minor final v Douglas due to an injury.

The Waterford-Clare game which had been scheduled for last night has been fixed for this Friday. Clare are due to play Cork four days later. You'd have to think that could come against Clare if it's a tight finish in the match next week. The Waterford U20s had a similar problem when their game against Limerick was delayed, and once again Cork were their next opponents just five (iirc) days later. Thems the breaks, but looks like the Cork teams might be the beneficiaries.
