Cork Hurlers - Part 2

I agree with most of what you are saying. I also share your realism about the Championship famine not ending any time soon. Realistically none of us here have the slightest idea on how to end the famine. We do seem to be producing very similarly players out of the underage pool. Are we winning U20s again because we’re on the way back or because of numbers? I still think that is debatable.
We’re not winning under 20’s by much.. just a point or so last year over a few teams in Munster. We have to bring them through … Cunningham, Mullins, Kingston, and maybe a few more from last year. Eoin Downey already progressing through.

Sorry by numbers I mean the number of players we have available.

As a member of Brian Dillons I’d very much welcome this. About time more came around to this. The big clubs are still big. We need to lift the junior hurling clubs in the city. The likes of Dillon’s, Vincent’s, Delanys, Passage etc need to be developed. They need GDAs far more than the big clubs.
Vincents in particular have been savaged in the past by Glen and Na Piarsaigh. However both of the latter are now struggling…. To be honest, no northside team in premier club championship is worrying.Passage lost John Horgan and Delaney’s lost Dermot McCurtain to Blackrock in 1970’s.

So did you go? Or did you watch on TG4?
By the way I was on the board of my club for years like my father before me and my wife trains the U14 girls. It's sad that you think that contributes less to the Gaa then some lad going through the motions in Clare but then again that's your prerogative.

Having said that I do agree that theyre not on here reading this so what the fuck does it matter if I criticise there performance on a discussion forum?
I pay thousands every year supporting Cork Gaa and I have season tickets for years now and have only missed a handful of matches since the 2000s. I was in Ennis on Sunday will be in Cork (a 45 minutes drive) on Saturday night etc etc.

So in summary if I want to have my say on a dismal performance that I bothered to go to I will.
Grand job.
If having your say is along the lines of insinuating that players are not bothered
some lad going through the motions in Clare
I'll continue to think that kind of commentary serves no useful purpose.

How did the Glen savage Vincents?
Because of the proximity of all 3 clubs, Vincent’s, Na Piarsaigh, Glen, players tended to join the 2 more successful clubs, and who would blame them. The O’ Hailpins for example picked Na Piarsaigh… could have easily gone to Vincents. Denis O’ Riordan moved from Ballincollig to Glen in 1960’s…fact is, at the time it was easier to advance career and win trophies if playing for big city clubs.Ring himself is an example, as is Joe Salmon from Galway. Red Crowley for example moved to Glen from Bandon/ Carbery in early 1970’s , as he had relocated to city. Blackrock, similarly gained Frank Cummins and Barrs gained John Meyler, Donie and Frank Collins, as big city clubs attracted new arrivals to the city. By all accounts, Frank Murphy tried hard to bring Justin McCarthy from Passage to Blackrock. John Horgan made the transition. Nowadays, players stay with their clubs and commute in and out of city. Playing population in Northside is not increasing, NaPiarsaigh are languishing in lower division, and joined by Glen this year.

Correction… Blackrock gained Donie and Frank Collins from Castlehaven. Donie and Francis won Harty medals with Farna and were snapped up by Rockies .
