You do realise if Wexford lost to Westmeath last week they would have been in danger of being in the relegation final? What if Wexford went down, what would you suggest happens then?

Does a team being relegated from Leinster (you're basically swapping like for like) make any difference to the JMD cup? Nope, whereas any of the five Munster teams going to the JMD would destroy it. So basically, for the promotion of one team that won't improve them an iota, you are going to destroy a competition (JMD) for five other teams.

Lads there’s a chance tomorrow may be the last time we see Hoggy in the Cork jersey, hopefully not obviously, but if you’re humming and hawing about travelling just go, and bring your kids to see one of our greatest hurlers ever
If he ends up being hauled ashore after 20 mins it wouldn't be the hoggie you want your kids to see or remember him as
 
Kerry have actually completed in Leinster recently enough, part of some qualifier system prior to the McDonagh Cup that fed into the championship proper.

It's a bizarre system really, deciding what province is immune to relegation based on the McDonagh winner. The awkward hinge point of two separate old and new systems
