Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Shane was a lot quieter last Sunday, he still struggles to win his own ball which will be crucial come championship. However he has been in rare form in the first two games, his workrate has been impressive and he’s got jightening pace so for me he is in pole position ahead of Jacko to start championship next to Hoggy
Absolutely. For me it's not even up for discussion whether he starts or not. Starts everyday when he's in this kind of form. If you can't start a fella who's playing well and scoring then who do you play.

I alluded to it in a previous post, KK is now sorting his order of impact subs. Think there might be 2/3 positions up for grabs in that forward line before championship. Barrett, Kingston, Hoggy, Lehane and maybe ROF are probably nailed on starters at this stage. The guys he's rotating in and out then: Harnedy/Keane/Twomey/Cahalane/JOC/Connolly probably vying for the last 1/2 places and who comes on first if one of the others aren't on form.

I think JOC will probably be a certain starter.

Agreed, just back from injury so being eased in. Still at least 2, hopefully 3/4 more league games there so a lot can change in that time. Wouldn’t think Barrett is a nailed on starter at this stage at all. But will have every opportunity to earn a spot over the next few games.

I think your a bit premature with a few nailed on starters there. Barrett has had 2 good games and I would probably start him as he is a very clever hurler, Lebane was superb in the first half last Sunday and im delighted for him but a bit like the team overall, one swallow doesn’t make a summer, I think he has a long way to go to start. Robbie O Flynn will probably start after last week and I think it’s fairly certain Hoggy, Harnedy and Kingston will start. I would be starting Conor Cahalane as he is one tough nut so to me it looks like

Cahalane, Harnedy, O Flynn
Kingston, Horgan, Barrett

My thinking behind Barrett is that KK is obviously a big fan having given him so much game time last year and this year.
Lehane, agreed. Im going off him giving the same effort between now and championship, and KK is giving him every chance to stake a claim.
I wouldn't be so sure on Harnedy starting. Was he missed last week when not on the field?

Barrett is a very good all round, reads the game, can give and take tackles, points and goals, and has big game temperament, moved from u20 to senior very well.
Yeah I like his play too and he has performed well so far

Thats my point, Lehane needs to produce that level of performance in the next 2 games, if he does he will probably start championship.

You are right on Harnedy, not a nailed on starter but again if he performs well in the next 2 games he will start. And no he wasn’t missed in the first half last week but he certainly was in the second half when we again started giving the Limerick half backs room to play

For me it’s now all about playing at the same level as last weekend both indidually and collectively from now on. If someone’s not doing it whip him off and bring on someone else. We are starting to build a serious panel

Not really missed.

With the inclusion of Joyce, Lehane and Barrett over Downey, Luke Meade, Harnedy and Cadogan are Cork a better team?

Going forward I think they are. All fine hurlers but other options are more clinical in their play.
