Whilst you are correct in the narrow confines of your statement and I actually agree with you but there is an assumption that let’s say “poor white folk” can actually understand this ,say that to Johnny when he’s struggling to put food on the table pay rent and work two jobs , It’s the widespread misuse of the term white privilege in Ireland is a big factor in causing division and in actual fact is a manifestation of contempt for working people by those who should know better as they are educated and hold positions of influence ,let alone the perma-angry cohort of the everyone gets a medal generation ,(blue hair ,Birkenstocks ) I question whether these people truly understand how they are undermining our quest to eradicate racism ,how their entitlement ,rage and indeed self loathing is fueling the right in this country ,they are as much an enemy of a progressive society as the counter movement they have helped spawn will become , No friends of a just Ireland either of them and unfortunately we are watching the pendulum swing,as old as the bible .

People with far more knowledge than us here have said it does exist and have written extensively on it. Ireland isn’t some unique country that is insulated from these things. Anyway that’s me out, hits too close to home.

There is privilege here, but it's a "who you know" privilege.

Was running on Sunday morning as part of the 10k race in the marathon. In the skate park near UCC as thousands of people were running were two homeless people shooting up. Very sad to see it.

It exists no doubt but the misuse of the term is incredibly damaging that’s the point
Last week for example at work I had a young woman throw “check your privilege “ at a 70 year old man (sober ) who tripped over her bag,crazy let alone telling ordinary people who would be very sympathetic to the struggles of immigrants that they are somehow part of the problem ,it’s disturbing and pushing people in the wrong direction ,everywhere from this issue to lgbt rights and everything inbetween are in under attack again everywhere because of this carry on ,
That the backlash against toxic wokism is helping the far right is worrying but they keep at it ,
