Cork city has gone to the dogs.

"Trying to get to Galway" is street slang for trying to get high as a kite.

There are some very innocent types on this forum who shouldn't be let out on the streets without a chaperone.
Bit harsh methinks.

Point being the € 2 given was done out of kindness I presume. Doesn't negate that perhaps some people asking for money might be honest in their need for it.
If everyone was cynical about helping some little bit, nobody would do anything for anyone.

I watched the match then headed out for a walk.
This girl came up to me looking for money but she was clean, nice looking and seemed alright. She said her stuff got robbed and she went to the guards, that she was trying to get the bus to Galway. I asked her was she from there and she said she was. I lived there for three years and she definitely had a Galway accent.
I can't pick up on a whole lot but she was on something alright. I gave her 2 euro cos I didn't have much cash on me. I'd say it was heroin. Its wasn't crack anyway and she wasn't drunk
I think I know the Wan you're talking about. She's been at that for years. Very persistent and good at convincing she's genuine. What's funny is if she's gets the two euro she desperately needs for "the bus" or whatever tale she's telling that day, she steps away and asks the next person for two euro too and so on.

I see lots of people giving her money. It might necessarily be for heroin but I do think if someone has to resort to pathetic methods like that for money then they probably have a very sad life and while story is bullshit it probably solves some other issues in her life that day.

I don't like giving money to druggies but I heard a senior Garda saying one time that Cork doesn't have a mugging problem because most addicts get enough from the public via begging to feed their habit. Addicts aren't going to not take heroin because they can't get the money. They'll always find a way. Remember the scene in the movie Adam and Paul when they mug the Down Syndrome young fella in Dublin city centre?

Weirdly, your generosity is likely contributing to a safer city.
