Cash or no cash?

Some public conveniences are contactless payment only. Could you imagine having to ask your bank: an bhfuil cead agam dul go dti an leithris, maith seo deir thula? Crazy.

Something which seems to be coming up a lot lately, people concerned about people paying with card instead of cash.

The government can track you if you pay with card, the banks take fees so they get richer, businesses lose out as they're losing the fees - etc.

Then you have businesses which now won't accept cash. Surely that's beneficial for some businesses - no need to worry about cash going missing, no need to worry about new staff filling their pockets.

People give out saying that cash is legal tender. But I don't think that means businesses have to accept it. When you go to a shop to make a purchase then you are only making an offer for the goods, and the shop doesn't have to sell them to you if they don't like your form of payment.

What are peoples thoughts on a future cashless society? It is coming, but why is it a bad thing?

What happens when interet goes down? No cash means more population control by government, they can see what and where you are spending it on and maybe even restrict it to certain transactions "for you're own welfare".

You get charged for accessing cash via an atm using your pin

Your dole will still be paid to you but in butter vouchers.

The Government already know what money is spent on as they collect vat on goods and services

Get a credit card. Then set up a direct debit to clear the entire amount owing on it every month. Then use it for all transactions. That way the merchant (shop/pub/restaurant) pays for each transaction and you get it for free. If you use a debit card you pay for each transaction.

If cash were to disappear, you would be trapped within the banking system, never able to witbdraw your money. The Austrians and Germans understand this, it is a pity a lot of Irish don't.
