Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Great to see 5 changes from last week and I’m particularly delighted for my two fellow club men coming in but I have to say I’m really dissapointed that some guys, who have been absolutely brilliant servants to Cork hurling and owe us nothing did not get the same treatment as the 5 dropped. Why?
I actually think it's 6 changes which is a big number by any standards.
Mellerick, cahalane, O'Connell, Coleman, Lehane, Twomey all started last Sunday.

It's a massive gamble by the management. If that team actually clicks together and Cork win it can change the whole season and gives the potential to go from strength to strength.
but of course the very opposite could easily happen too.
I'm finding it very hard to call what way it will go

When you have Duggan in the form he was last week on puckouts and Fitzgerald moving up HF for puck outs too, then starting Coleman or Tommy O C would have been targeted by Clare.

Plenty of us gave out about it in the build up to and post the Waterford game so I think it's makes some degree of sense starting lads who are strong in the air like Tim O M and Ethan Twomey. I'd have no fear of either of them. Two fine players.

If Coleman started MF I'd have no issue either. Personally I'd have him as a 3rd MF in lieu of Hoggy and Barrett CF with Harnedy and Dalton WF. Connolly and Hayes inside.

Mellerick is very unlucky. Maybe he has a knock? I'd have him corner back.

Agree it’s very hard to call. Outside of Limerick there isn’t a puck between 5-6 other teams really as they are all rebuilding, inconsistent, unpredictable or struggling someway or another to varying degrees.

The wumming about Hoggie is in bad taste. Would I have picked him to start on Sunday...absolutely not but let's have a bit of respect for the guy too.

He's been a great performer for Cork for many years and is the second highest Championship scorer of all time.

He doesn't pick himself!
You are right, he doesn’t pick himself.

Long gone though are the days when veterans left the stage on their own terms.

I haven’t met a single person all week that would start him Sunday. In fact it’s years I’d say since I’ve spoken to anyone that would start him and I’m including some great hurling men in that. This isn’t personal, it’s just an honest opinion. The team comes first

Spot on, Mellerick is very unlucky to be dropped. Hoggie is lucky to be selected.

Big opportunity for TOM at wing back. I wanted him midfield but hope it goes well for him.

Also E Twomey midfield, didnt see that coming. Best of luck to him.

Hopefully more ball into Connelly, his goal last week was quality.

If team starts as selected its an opportunity lost for Fitz to go center forward and run at Conlon and Clare all day long.

Hells bells!
Ring the changes 😆
Would appear that unlike the mob on here PR didn't hold the 3 hurlers of the apocalypse solely responsible for defeat to Waterford.
As I predicted he's filleted and rearranged the back 6.
Great to see Deccie back, and I think Hayes is a good shout to start in the forward line with Hoggie and Connolly.

Fingers crossed for ED and ET, they're being trusted in 2 unforgiving positions.

Guess PR and co are keeping with the patterns of team selection from the league - some non-negotiables in each line in the starting 15 and switch it up each week for who starts alongside them.

The time to make a few hard calls was last week. The lads who were going well in the league should,ve been persisted with to the detriment of a few of the older lads. Coleman can't have any complaints. He was bad in the first half. As has been said here ad nauseam, the first job of a defender is to defend and he didn't do it. He hasn't really shown up well since his return, unfortunately. It is a bit worrying that Pat Ryan still doesn't know his first 15. TOM and Dalton will bring a bit of bulk, which will be needed against Clare. I agree with posters who say Tommy O Connell is unlucky. In fairness he always gives it his all even if he is up against physically stronger players. He won't be a bad man to bring on with 15/20 mins to go to give us a bit of energy if it's a tight game.

I don't know what to think tbh.
On the one hand I am glad to see changes from last Sunday and in particular I wish Eoin Downey, Ethan Twomey and Brian Hayes well as they take the first steps of their inter county careers( I realise it is not the debut for any of the three).

On the other hand it smacks of panic and a management team who in their second year have no clue what team to play even though they have been playing matches for months now.

I feel sorry for Damien Cahalane, Ger Millerick, TOC, Sean Twomey, Mark Coleman and Conor Lehane who seem to be taking the blame for what was a desperately poor team performance where very very few could claim to have played well.

I think Pat Horgan is very lucky to have kept his place and some of those dropped have good reason to be very disappointed.

There are a lot of questions that can be asked. TOM and Ethan Twomey were on the bench last week and not introduced but start this week

I don't think any of this reflects well on management and I think they more than any player are under pressure. They very badly need a win, a good losing performance will not be enough imo.

We all want the best for Cork and we will be there supporting the team as always. We are looking for the signs that a real team is emerging, I thought we saw it last year against Limerick and mu hope is that on Sunday we will get back to the level and move forward with a win.

A win will change everything around Cork hurling and set up the game against Limerick brilliantly.
