Racism in football

Remember doing english homework about an article in an english newspaper around the early to mid 80's where John Barnes would routinely have bananas thrown at him when on the pitch by the LIVERPOOL fans.

Paul Stewart called Keane and Irish so and so a few years ago, clearly audible on the telly. Keane told him to piss off and clattered him later on in the game.

That was the end of it.

Proper order too. If Keane had gone public every time he was called an Irish "whatever", he'd have needed his own newspaper & tv station.

Black players "play this card" quite a bit. Etoo in his Barca days when he wasn't playing well away from home, used to whinge conveniently about it.

Spot on Corcaigh.
Barnes was Pool's first ever black signing which led to insinuations about thwe club being racist. With such a second-generation Irish following it was possible.
Mark Walters took awful crap from the Rangers fans when Graeme Souness signed him. Portsmouth's following were notorious for giving their black players a hard time too.
