Slogging.

Slogging apples.

What a scene.

Stealing apples/chessies (horse chestnuts) from another persons home.

I've been involved in this scam in the past.

There was an orchard out near the Model Farm road many, many moons ago.
An uncle of mine was the watchman there.

Man, we creased the gaff.

I went back to the northside like a laden mule. We were eating apple tarts for about 4 years afterwards.

I was also involved in a chestnut heist near that pub down by Parklands.

We were chased by a gringo in a Jeep.

I hid by a ditch, the chaser was about 3 feet from me but never saw me.

Me heart was up to me mouth.

Why do youngfellas do this shit?

There is no way in hell I could take the pressure of a potential severe beating, these days.

What about the rest of ye?

Any bloke on here who hasn't slogged apples is a pure failure.

Slogging???Who comes up with these strange words ye have?
*shakes head*I dunno,I will never understand ye Cork people!!

Those were the days. I was only thinking about it last year on seeing a garden with ripe apples on the trees.
I says to my one that we knew every apple tree with a square mile of our house and i dont think any apple got to the stage of being ripe before they were whipped. I says that it seems now that slogging is seeing as not being necessary as every kid can just get some spons and buy some sweets n fags but in our days an unripe apple had some value.

Looks like we might all have to get back to slogging the way things have turned over the last year tho...

Cork people have a rich and varied vocabulary, in fairness.

What would a Galwegian say?

"We went out and we stole apples from a foreign orchard, my good fellow"?

In Cork, we'd say, "we were slogging, sham".

This is one reason why we beat ye at hurling.

:)

We would call it what it is-steelin.
And the reason ye beat us at hurling is ye can run faster due to running from yer 'slogging' sessions:lol:

Why would you have to steal horse chestnuts? They're almost useless (throwing at brother's heads notwithstanding)

You silly boy.

Chessies were currency back in the day.

1 chessie was a car radio.

2 chessies were a woman.

3 chessies were a mobile home in Garrettstown.

4 chessies were a female slave, capable of ANYTHING, operating a car radio in a mobile castle in Ballybunion.

One of the two of us has gone mad. (Or possibly both) I haven't an idea what you're trying to tell me. Maybe my brain melted in the sun.
