All this too shall pass.
Politics is always fluid and loyalties for votes etc are transitory.
Unionism will get over this very poor lack of strategy nightmare (Brexit, RHI,Social restrictions etc) eventually but the one thing that will unify and galvanize Unionism is a border poll and politicians down here need to park that and be very quiet about it for a while yet.
The will be very difficult for the knuckle dragging old Republican element who in their equally bad planning would want one in the next year or two.
The thing that's galvanize Unionism is a border poll - Astounding. Next you'll be revealing that water is wet
A border poll is another thing that we voted in favour of having.
Even the bluest of blue shirts like Leo Varadkar is talking about a United Ireland happening in his lifetime to a Fine Gael Ard Fheis. Let that sink in.
Varadkar to a Fine Gael Ard Fhis is talking about a United Ireland but the leader of self declared "The Republican Party", and many of his fans here, are saying "Shhhhh! Don't even mention a Border Poll"
Given the pandemic I've not seen anyone saying that there should be a Border Poll in the next year or two, what people have been saying is there should be realistic DISCUSSION of, and PREPARATION for, a Border Poll in the next year or two.
But MM is seeing FF trail in the wake of SF in the opinion polls and doesn't even want to mention something that might stir old feelings in the FF grass roots.
You and MM and all the others who are saying there shouldn't even be mention of the Border Poll, much less discussion and preparation for it, need to wise up, or else ye risk being left behind when others inevitably discuss it and prepare for it.
And bear in mind, a Border Poll is NOT a United Ireland. It's merely a vote on whether or not the people of this island want a United Ireland. There's nothing more threatening or antagonistic about getting people's wishes through a Border Poll than say a General Election. There'll be people delighted, and people disappointed, but at the end of it all, the people will have spoken, and their wishes should be respected.
