WinAmp - End of an era...

VLC is shite for audio.

Winamp aint great for video though either.

Didn't winamp's era really end when AOL took it over?

I still use v2.95 on older PC's, launches in less than a second.

A nice write up here about the mystery of the llama:

So what is the best thing we can replace winamp with?

Mediamonkey is probably the closest thing to it,
it even supports Winamp plugins, and is very powerful for organizing your library.

I have to say the MilkDrop plugin for winamp is the best Visualizer I've seen, and is probably still unmatched to this day.

all may not be lost [depending on your viewpoint] rumous on tech crunch is that M$ are interested in aquiring it... say bye to winamp though as they'll be after the visuliser and shoutcast only..

hopefully Google will throw in there oar and make it open source [at last] and it will live on...

It deserves to - it is as much a part of Internet History as the Internet itself now....
