Translation

My irish is poor and from a long time ago.

Is this proper Irish or a google translate?

Bhuel nach bhfuil tusa i d'amadán níl fiú a fhios agat teanga na tíre seo. Is duine neamh-chultúrtha tusa

Thanks

It's not google translate, it's actually very rich Irish.

I'd agree.

Irish can be so much more about the story than the syntax or grammar. It's a language that lends itself to saying so much by saying something completely different at times.

To try to give an example, talking about a bachelor with a love of sleeping on the floor boards. Translate it in to the richness of Irish and you'll see heads nodding in understanding.

"níl fiú a fhios agat teanga na tíre seo"

very rich Irish? Huh?

An ag magadh atá tú? Ní saineolaí mise ar chúrsaí teangan ach ní dóigh liom go bhfuil an clásal sin ceart.

Ní bhíonn a fhios agat ar theanga - bíonn eolas agat.

Ach nílim cinnte.
