Train from Newcastle to Edinburgh

Has anyone taken this route?

I may have to do it during the summer. A quick search tells me there's at least two rail companies offering this service, Cross Country and Virgin.

Any advice on which may be the best option and anything else to look out for?

Sound.

Whichever one you choose, book as early as possible. Leaving a UK rail fare to anything within 2 weeks of traveling and you'll have to remortgage the house.

Cheers. Was just doing further reading, I can purchase a single fair now for about 20 quid. But it's specific to an exact time and no refund. And if I want the flexi fare it's about 60/70 quid. Big difference. Probably just take the cheap one, give myself a couple of hours grace and hope there's no major delays getting there...

Check out the National Express coach services ,a fraction of the Rail fare.
Since the Privatisation of the Rail service , British rail services are the most expensive in Europe as are the local bus services.

You might get it cheap on thetrainline.com.
I've used that route a few times, they're both the same.
One way for ~£20.

MegaBus is another option, decent wifi, reclining seats.
3 hr journey for less than £20, return.

Personally I'd go the train.
