The Official Spurs thread

Ange has lost 7 of his last 11 league games.

At what point does he start to come under pressure
Not that it should be just blindly accepted or anything, but the losses against Newcastle and Arsenal were the same outcomes as the corresponding fixtures last season. I think if they get zero or one point from the Brentford and United games, trouble will be afoot.

42 league matches in and there's been little tactical flexibility. Invert the full backs and push everybody on, relying on Micky to tidy up any danger with his pace. It really hasn't worked in terms of overall dominance. Sure they can dominate for long periods but always give up big chances to undo it all. It's there to see in the numbers, too much strain on the defence.

How are the financials with the new stadium cloudy? Can spurs afford a few years of tncl while they rebuild? I know it's a multi purpose venue so wondering how much that could bridge the gap?

I don't think major surgery is required to the squad to be a solid top 4 side but no way is Ange going to do it.

I wouldn't pretend to understand the mechanics of financing such ventures, but it was always said that the stadium build would be seamless and not impact the football side of the business, and that appears to be the case.

Spurs financed the stadium mainly through some very long-term debt on pretty favourable terms (as interest rates were low at the time).

Doesn't seem they are in any way at risk financially if they had an extended run of no CL football.

Stadium financials are well sound. Levy in fairness has done it in a way where financially the club got an award for being the best run a few months ago.

The issue is almost self perpetuating now.

Fans want on field success.
Up to Chelsea last year Anges plan was working.

There are some undroppables who simply shouldn't be there and are phoning it in. Maddison and Bissouma being the obvious. Problem is he keeps picking them and it essentially prevents Ange ball because they mess up the transition from backs to forwards. Maddison tries outside of the right foot worldies that rarely come off or the simple square 5-10 yarder. Bissouma seems to be a slightly more enthusiastic Tanguy Ndombele.

The 6 was a must in the transfer window. Bentancur looks like he is going to be out for 3 month ban.

The whole point of Ange ball is attack and Arsenal showed if you park the bus, Romero and VdV have no out ball and Maddison is incapable of going past people to create spaces. So Ange ball is stymied.

Udogie is also failing to live up to where he was game 1-10 last season.

It won't happen but I'd go

Vicario
Porro Romero Dragusin Van de Ven
Bentancur (while available) Bergvall Sarr
Son Solanke Kulusevski (if Johnson isn't being given the ball which Romero and Maddison didnt do repeatedly v Arsenal).

Ange gave a presser yesterday which was tantamount to f off and don't be annoying me. Results better start turning around.

Hmmm...they were running very hot versus underlying numbers. It was never going to last.

Still, disappointing that it wasn't enough to finish above Villa at the very least, when Spurs were head and shoulders above them in the two games they played eachother in the PL last season.

I wouldn't really be blaming individuals too much. It's more the lack of solidity on the defensive end. It's probably the lack of somebody who can be a real all-rounder at the base of the midfield.

Having said that, I haven't seen anything except the last 15 minutes of the Leicester game, so can't comment too much. You've always seemed to enjoy picking on individuals and never changing your mind, so I can't be blindly on board with that.

That's OK.
I think Maddison is a genius when he has loads of time and space. But when there's work to be done in a midfield battle, he goes missing. Midfield is crucial to Ange ball. If it isn't working Ange ball doesn't work.
I've seen every game they've played. Including preseason. It says alot that he is picking the same crew who lit up the start of last season, expecting the same, not getting it and then expecting them to rediscover it the next time.
