The Official Man Utd Thread - Part 3.

A Keane in his playing days would despise the man he has turned into now. He's a proper pipe and slippers man. I find him to be one of the laziest pundits out there, in terms of doing research and tactically ignorant. Some would say, a bluffer. Yeah, yeah, I know that's not his job and he's just there to pimp out the soundbites.

He has played a clever game though, pretending that he wanted to get back into management for years, so that Sky and ITV would be putting a few extra zeros on his salary.
Yet Bruno himself has said that Keane's criticism has driven him to be better.

He's playing well now, he's not just scoring penalties and free kicks but is scoring from open play by arriving late.
More importantly he's also holding shape which helps to shut out opponents.

That was the criticism all along, now we're seeing a real player and not one who just plays for himself.

Long may it continue.

To be fair Mike, how many of us when we’re in our fifties would be the same person we were in our 20s / 30s. We grow and mature and our perspectives change with experience. You could also argue that Keane is showing a consistency of approach, that is, calling it as he sees it. Then as a player, now as a pundit. For sure, Keane has built up a curmudgeonly old lad persona on TV, but basically he seems to me to be the same type of person that he was as a player. Some lads here don’t like what his opinions are and maybe that is colouring their view of him. Fair enough, we all have some in built bias or need to defend ‘our club’. One thing for sure, he has lived and played the game at the highest levels and as one of its finest exponents in a generation. In my book that lends a lot of credence to what he says.
