I think you've misinterpreted their statement.

They said they'd support him in his response to the charge. He may choose to accept the charge, but it'll be his call not the club's.

TBC. The FA are defining this as a "non-standard" case, so will have a hearing to decide any punishment - and may choose to differ from the standard punishments above.
