The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

Interesting player and at a £50m price point I can see why he'd be of interest.

Stylistically has lots of similarities to early career Mo...but would need to make a big leap in terms of xG + goals output to be considered a potential medium-term replacement.

Might be interesting to see Kubo as right side wide attacker & Mo moved into the centre.

Would they ever just get on with it and buy some fucker ? Time is moving on.

Given the new manager and the late return of players due to the Euros/Copa it might well be a summer of relatively few incomings.

It would be tricky for Hughes and Slot to make lots of big decisions on players they haven't worked with. Although Slot has even watched back tapes of them training last season, so perhaps he's willing to make some educated guesses.

Could be a case of carrying a few extra guys around the squad (or giving some edge cases an opportunity out on loan) through to Jan and then making some moves (in and out) across that window and the summer 2025 one.

You'd have imagined Michael Edwards would have some groundwork already done for Slot ?

Kubo is very good but not a 50m player imho. Endo would be a great mentor for him but for that money we could get Olmo who is a proven performer at the top level. Nico might also be possible. Both of those guys want to go to Barca but they can only sign one of them.

This is the 28 going to the US today, around 10 established players going and another 11 almost our best XI- VVD, Gapko, Gravenberch, TAA, Gomez, Jota, Konate, Allison, Diaz, McAllister, Nunez who are all still on hols for another week or two. Clark is injured and Danns is also possibly injured but apparently is going on loan to Plymouth.- he is one I really rate, a far more natural goalscorer than Nunez. Squad is still fairly strong- top 4 yes maybe not top 2, so much will depend on how Slot goes trying to get best out of players he has not signed will be difficult.

Bajetic & Doak should be interesting this season-if they can stay injury free they have a shot.
also those coming back from loans Van der Berg, Morton, Carvahlo, Beck, Phillips. (except for Phillips they all did well on loan and Carvahlo will probably be one of the few glad that Klopp is gone).
out of those 7 we need maybe 2 to step up to being not first XI but say first 15 or 16. Two others who played in the LC final-McConnell & Clark both have great potential.

Depending on what direction Slot/Hughes want to go in tactically there are a plenty of options in the current squad.

Also guys like Bobby Clark, Sepp vdB, Danns, Koumas not on this list.

Obviously fans always want to see new shiny signings in the door, and a certain amount of turnover is healthy, but I don't think a high volume of transfers is needed or wise this summer.

Very interested to see if Bajcetic can put his injury problems behind him. He has it in him to lock down that #6 position for years to come, if he develops as you'd hope.

Agreed. Every fan loves the idea of new signings but a major turnover of players isn’t required. There will already be a bit of change to the playing style which appears to be more possession based than attack based so we just need to find a one or two players to make things tick.

Essential to that would be a DM who can move but more so be press resistant at all costs and move the ball from left to right and forward quickly. A bit like City signing Rodri when Pep took over. Who that sort of player is for Liverpool, I’m unsure but maybe Zubimendi is someone who could be got and looked to be a very able replacement for Rodri for the second half of the Euros final, granted an extremely small sample to use.
