The Official Liverpool Thread - Part 2

Don't worry lads, there's a top class manager out of work atm.

Can't be anything for grateful to Klopp for all he's done. If he's not physically/mentally ready to carry on then I'd rather he step aside and not get ground into dust like Kenny.

imho the way he manages a group of players he needs to be at full throttle energy or the whole thing is too much of a half-way house.

And to his credit he has seen through, whether he knew it or not, a significant bit of transition planning in the last 18 months. The squad is in good shape for whoever comes next. Lots of quality & flexibility there for the new guy to put his imprint on the field.

Would be great if the team can see him off this season with a trophy or two.

Of the guys near the top of the betting...

I'd be leaning more towards De Zerbi or Xabi than Lijnders. Gerrard is 100% off the table, hopefully.

Can we take a moment to look at the main positive though and once again, thank, Aston Villa for giving Gerrard the main gig that time. We can now avoid all chat that he'll be the next boss.

FU Aston Villa, fuck you right in your ear hole.

You'll pay for this by Christ.

Going to be a major change at the club now, losing someone who was the main lure for players incoming too. His backroom team are all leaving too. The next appointment is so important. Look at United after Fergie left. If you give something a chance to spiral out of control, then it will. Alonso is the man for it, albeit unproven in longer term.

He looks a very handy coach alright. Sure the Brighton set-up can help make it a soft landing for new managers, but you still need to get your ideas across & get buy-in from the player - which he's done wonderfully.

From a betting perspective, PP have put him straight in as 13/2 third favourite but I wouldnt touch him. Who knows when Klopp will move on and whether De Zerbi will still be held in such high regard when that rolls around. I'd wager Napoli will be his next club.

For quite a while now PP have had Ljinders top of the market, but he wouldn't get my vote. When Klopp moves on he'll leave big shoes to fill & I think the club will need a big personality to step in & chart their own path. Ljinders isn't that and won't likely have the influx of new ideas as he's been part of the coaching setup for many years.

There aren't too many inspiring names in the list below.

Luis Enrique is one I've always had a soft spot for - as player & manager.
Nagelsmann has promise, but if he takes on a new role by the summer is he likely to be free if Klopp stays on to summer 2026?
Alonso is intriguing, if he show sufficient promise in the meantime.

He's not on the list below, but I can see Marco Rose being in the mix - with Klopp's blessing. Liverpool look to scout heavily in Portugal, so Ruben Amorim will probably be on their radar, if he can oversee a resurgence at Sporting.

Bar Tedesco, nobody on a price bigger than 25/1 would have any realistic chance of being the next manager imho and there's probably an even money chance that the next manager isn't even on the list below. Managerial reputations come & go.

I didn't think I'd be revisiting this post quite so soon.

Not a lot of options on the market, but there are some talented younger coaches at international sides who may be willing to pre-agree a deal ahead of Euro 2024 (e.g. Nagelsmann, Tedesco).

At this point I'd be surprised if either Alonso or De Zerbi don't end up with the gig - but these things change quickly.

From a club structure perspective, it's not a good look making such a huge decision when you don't have a permanent director of football in place.

You’d think they’d go all in on Alonso alright, he seems the obvious choice. As said by many Liverpool fans here today, thank fuck for the disastrous marriage of Gerrard and Villa, they were to the PL what John and Mary are to the PROC!

Gutted.

Two things popped into my head after watching the interview.

When he was asked about his health he replied "I'm fine". Perhaps someone in his family is ill. Hope not.

Secondly - his whole team, Pep Lijnders etc. going at the end of the season - made me wonder if FSG are on the way out and Klopp doesn't want to work for whoever is coming in.

Whatever the reason - here's hoping that Liverpool batter everyone in front of them until May and give Klopp the send-off that he deserves.
