The Hurling Thread

In that scenario of 4 teams , all of the games next weekend in the Munster championship alone would be dead rubbers!!!!
See what’s happening in the football with the AI series..with no jeopardy there isn’t much interest.
Incorrect. You would have teams trying to jockey for position to finish as high up in the table with an incentive of a home quarterfinal if you finish in the top three (the provincial winner gets a by into the ai semi obviously).

Absolutely no comparison to the do or die next Sunday.
Again just look at the football AI series. If they are lucky with results there might be competitive games come the last weekend.

There were defenders back covering inside the 20m line. Plus…Collins rushed out off his line and closed the space in front which would have driven the Tipp player away from goals and towards the end line. The ref (and linesman Sean stack of all people) took plenty of time to consult.
Covering defenders is a soccer rule, not a hurling rule. In football the rule states a 'deliberate trip'. In hurling its simply 'a trip'. Although the tackles themselves were not similar (between Hayes and Seanie), the result was the same - the denial of a goal scoring opportunity. So, he and we were steeped he wasn't black carded and a penalty given. I'd say if it was 10 minutes later in the game it would have been given.

One interesting issue again raising its head ,well for me anyway is refereeing consistency.
Compare and Contrast the foul by kyle hayes on shane Kingston that resulted in a black card and a penalty to the one yesterday after 3 mins by sean o donohue of cork v tipp, yc and 21 yard free. If one merited a black card and a penalty should the 2nd one in this instance ?
Glad to see this raised as there seemed to be more commentators saying SOD tackle should have been black card and pen than not. Which I don't agree with at all.

If SOD tackle is a black card and pen then every single tackle that is technically a foul in that zone is a black card and pen. That is not what the rule is for. The rule is for the cynical, shameless 'I'm pulling you down so your team can't get a goal' type of tackle. I'm biased but I think Walsh got it right. Maybe moreso by the spirit of the law rather than the letter of the law. SOD is still trying to make a clean tackle when there is a tangle and it's clearly a foul, but there's no intentional cynical element to the foul at all imo.

Hayes had to be a black card and pen due to cynical rugby tackle nature of it and the player is in the red zone. The rule was created to stop defenders using that technique and it seems to be working.

And the minor is a bit of a joke in fairness... very hard to get motivated.... we lost to clare and tipp. If we were in fear of going out would it be the same attitude

Surely at minor the biggest thing is to expose players to that level. It’s good for hurling all round.

The only difference is the time in the game. Both are deliberate. Sod is far far more subtle. I’m sure Hayes wishes Diarmuid Byrnes or Declan Hannon had the sense to pull Kingston down earlier.

Sounds like Mike Casey and dara o Donovan will be back for Sunday.

I see my own county kilkenny getting a bit of a kicking here. Not denying there's bitter people in kk, just think there's good and bad in every county. I have no dislike for cork or any county for that matter. Actually cork are probably my favourite team to watch. Lovely skilful stylish hurlers. My own dad wouldn't have been a fan of donal og or a few other of the team of the 00s, but he's very much a fan of his tell it as it is punditry and always comments on how horgan and others are such lovely hurlers.

Not every body here is obsessed with hating KK, Most appreciate what a fantastic team they were,

I’ll be honest. From 08-12 I really enjoyed watching them. Cork were down during those years so there was no rivalry so enjoying them at their pomp wasn’t too hard. I loved watching Shefflin, every time I saw him live he was bloody on it!!!
