The European domestic politics thread

The Icelandic establishment parties due a kicking in the election this weekend. Newly formed Pirate Party due to benefit the most.

Strange that established parties will get a kicking, they let their banks fail and went after the bankers, they put an ex prime minister on trial for his part in it.
The have political accountability, unemployment rate of around 2 percent and a gdp growth rate of over 4%

Yeah fair point. I think the main objection to the current system isn't the lack of policy, rather the corruption among the existing government. Which is probably fair enough.

Outstanding

A great speech but the point he made regarding Algorithms is false. Al Khwarizmi did not "invent" algorithms and the first basic algorithm was formalized by Euclid but Al-kwarizmi is, however, considered the father of algebra and did have an outsized influence on the Renaissance. Modern algorithm's were devised by David Hilbret and Turing among others, which led to the development of the computer.

The Pirates ended up with 10 seats up 7 from last time. The junior party (Independence) in the outgoing coalition ended up with 2 extra seats at 21. The main party in the last government (Progressive) got whupped alright with 8 seats down from 19 last time

Could be very interesting coalition talks

More to the point it didn't start in the Islamic world . The Greeks were knocking out these ideas centuries before them. It became lost knowledge in Europe and the Arabs picked it up again.

Amazing what you can do when you're not blackmailed by the ECB.

Al Gore invented algorithms when he invented the Internet. That's why they're called Al-Gore-ithms, duh.
