The Action Plan for Housing.

Building upwards looks the way to go now, wont suit everybody but needs must, Housing is one reason young graduates emigrate but fact is many do so to see different parts of the world, the idea that they are all miserable as they head for the airport is far from true,
All types of housing is required from 1 & 2 bedroom apartments, affordable social housing, student apartment's, sheltered living, private housing and apartments to 6 bedroomed houses depending on need.

Community spaces, sports areas, spaces for artists and bands in former industrial buildings etc.

Politicians object to all forms of housing during a housing crisis while at the same time spending €4 billion on it.

Yes, some of them are going to see the world when they're young, but having seen it, and have the ability to buy/rent a house and still afford a life will keep a lot of them there.

By 2045 we will have a very ageing population. We will need those young people here at home to run a decent society. If we keep losing them overseas we'll be in deep shit.

As I said, this will concentrate minds. Homelessness and quality of life are no longer just a poor person's problem

Hopefully technology can help bring down the cost of building too

Tower blocks built in the 1960s in England were being torn down in the 1980s because they were poorly constructed and not fit for purpose, we need to be very careful what we wish for.

There are no plans to build any "Tower blocks"

All were poorly built on marginal land and well away from all local services like shops, schools and transport etc.

Yes that is the point never addressed by those who say build, build, build,
No it is not.

It's obvious to everyone that amenities need to be available to people in newly built areas. That also works in reverse. Doctors, nurses, teachers, civil servants etc need housing they can afford, or we will lose them to countries where they can.

Imagine being a teacher trying to live in Dublin on a new entrants salary.

Good luck with that.

He's technically correct, we have 170k People employed in construction, but as someone pointed out in the comments, how many of those are building houses? There are offices, data centres, hospitals, infrastructure projects too.
